RE= Usapang Soldering (Tin) at Sardinas

grabe yung price ng Tin now sa global market, this 2026 it is almost 3,200 pesos per Kg..
95-99% kasi ng solder ay Tin..
Pero bukod sa pagsosolder or paghihinang, ang no.1 application ng Tin is para sa mga de lata, at ang no.1 dyan is lata ng sardinas at corned beef..
Kasi lagi sinasabi ng mga manufacturer ng sardinas, na kaya nagmamahal ang sardinas is gawa ng presyo ng lata (Tin) is nagmamahal ( buti pa sardinas, nagmamahal.. sana all)
so out of curiousity, naparesearch ako, ilang percent ba ng lata ng sardinas (empty can) yung actually tin (Sn)? ang lumabas ay 1% lang pala... so yung lata ng sardinas is actually 99% steel at me 1% coating lang ng Tin pra hindi kalawangin agad..
so based dun sa computation ni chatgpt at google Ai, ang actual cost ng lata ng sardinas is nasa 83 centavos to 1 pesos.. so kung ang presyo ng sardinas now is Php22 to php30, 1 peso dun is dahil sa lata..
kaya siguro mas mura yung mga sardinas na nakapouch lang, kaso me risk na madurog yung sardinas sa loob.. ehhehe
if for example ang 25 pesos ang grocery price ng sardinas, so ang wholesale price nyan is mga nasa 20 pesos, so ang manufacturing cost nyan is nasa around 15 pesos? so medyo significant nga yung 1 peso cost of Tin sa isang lata ng sardinas.. kasi 1/15 = about 7%
pero not that significant na itataas mo yung presyo ng sardinas dahil ang excuse mo ay mataas ang presyo ng Tin or lata sa global market...

Yes. Most modern solder wires are primarily made of tin (Sn).

Common solder wire compositions include:

TypeTypical CompositionTin Content
Lead-free solder99.3% Sn, 0.7% Cu~99% tin
SAC305 solder96.5% Sn, 3.0% Ag, 0.5% Cu96.5% tin
Traditional tin-lead solder60% Sn, 40% Pb60% tin
Eutectic solder63% Sn, 37% Pb63% tin

Because tin is usually the largest component, a sharp increase in global tin prices can significantly increase solder wire manufacturing costs.

For example, if tin prices rise from about US$32/kg to US$54/kg (+67%), a solder wire manufacturer may see a substantial increase in raw material costs, especially for lead-free solders that contain over 95% tin.

As a sales engineer, this is one reason you may notice:

  • Higher solder wire selling prices
  • Pressure on margins if prices are not adjusted quickly
  • Customers asking why solder prices increased even when copper or lead prices did not move much

For lead-free solder, tin is usually the metal that matters most when tracking future price trends. Silver can also have a noticeable impact on premium SAC alloys, but tin generally dominates the cost because it makes up most of the alloy by weight.

If you tell me the exact solder alloy you sell (e.g., Sn99.3/Cu0.7, SAC305, Sn63/Pb37), I can estimate how much the metal cost per kilogram has increased based on current metal prices.

how much is the global price of tin now per kg?

As of early June 2026, the global benchmark tin price is around US$54,000–56,000 per metric ton on the London Metal Exchange (LME).

Converting to kilograms:

  • US$54,000/ton = US$54.00/kg
  • US$56,000/ton = US$56.00/kg

A reasonable working estimate today is:

≈ US$55/kg of tin metal

For solder manufacturers, that means the tin content alone in a lead-free solder such as Sn99.3/Cu0.7 costs roughly:

  • 0.993 × US$55/kg
  • US$54.6/kg of solder wire just for the tin metal content

before adding copper, flux, manufacturing, packaging, freight, and distributor margins.

For reference, tin was around US$32–33/kg in 2025, so today's price near US$55/kg represents roughly a 65–70% increase.

If you're selling solder wire in the Philippines, this is a major cost driver because lead-free solder is typically more than 95% tin by weight.
